Kandinsky Blanket Complete!

It’s finished! Seeing it complete makes me want to squeal!!!! And use lots of exclamation marks!!!!!!!!

I had called this my bright blanket, but on looking at the photos it reminds me so much of Kandinsky’s Concentric Circles that I decided to rename it. It is a very heavy blanket, all made of tapestry wool in all the best colours that DMC can supply.

I have been so excited about this. When I first started it I spent a few days doing little else, but then I rationed myself to only 4 squares per day to limit any neglect of my family and other responsibilities. This was quite a dangerous strategy because I know I have a limited attention span for projects. Anything that takes more than about a month runs a risk of being tidied away and forgotten about for a year, or a decade, or more. Not this one, though! I did have a bit of a danger spot when I started knitting socks, so alongside this blanket I have knitted three and a half pairs of socks, but I never abandoned the blanket.

Now I just have to decide where it is going to live. This is quite a decision, as it is not really washable, so it can’t be in a child’s bedroom, or on a sofa in the living room. This is my current favourite spot:

It is in the ‘playroom’. I know, you’re thinking that the playroom is a stupid place to put it, but reality is a bit different. When we moved to this house we planned to have the main living room as a ‘grown up’ room, and the other sitting room as a playroom. In actual fact, for most of the time we have lived here the playroom was so full of junk it was unusable, and because the TV, my computer, and latterly the Wii, were in the living room, so were the kids.  The playroom is now where I retreat to to get some peace and quiet. No-one ever sits on that sofa except adults.

Now it’s time for more exclamation marks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Are you kidding me? Three and a half pairs of socks AND a blanket???

I wasn’t sure about the black when you showed the wool the first time, but I have to admit it looks stunning. The black really brings it all together. I do know what you mean about being dragged back to reality after the first couple of days with a new project, though, especially one that gets results as quickly as crochet squares!

I have to say I was a little bit unsure about the black too, until I saw it all coming together. I did have in mind that I wanted it to look a bit like a stained glass window, and they are all outlined in lead.
