I had a phone call at 9.15 this morning. The person due to take Sunday School wasn’t well, and could I go along and do it instead? With the proviso that it wouldn’t be that interesting at such short notice, I agreed.
Luckily, it is the fourth Sunday in the month. This means that there was no actual service on at 10.30, just coffee, croissants, newspapers and chat. This is because when you share a vicar between 5 parishes, you can’t all have a service every week. We wanted to have something every week at 10.30, so this is the result, a chance to get to know each other better and talk about current events, which you don’t get at a normal service. It also means that the Sunday School doesn’t have to be quiet at the back, and has the run of the church whilst the adults are gathered around the cafetiere.
I started by asking the children why they thought we come to church, then I sent them off with a camera to take photos of things in church to represent each reason.
We come to church…
