Miss 11 has been at home this week. She has the flu. I don’t remember her ever having a day off school ill before, so this is a new experience for us. Whilst chatting outside the (other) school gate this afternoon, someone commented that one day this week there were 92 children off sick at her school. In a school of 320, that’s quite a proportion. I think we’re all hoping that the bug has now done its rounds and we can all get back to normal before Christmas.
One thing Miss 11 has done this week is sit on the sofa wrapped in a blanket and watch the first three Harry Potter films. She has seen them all before, but she just finished reading the first book last week, and was keen to watch the film again to compare and contrast.
She asked me whether they ran out of money while they were making the film. No, I replied, I don’t think they were particularly short of money. So, why did they leave so much out? I think it is the first time she has ever read a book and also watched the film based on the book. It has been quite a revelation, how much film makers have to cut out in order to fit a book into a film. And the overall opinion? The book was funnier.
Both girls have seen all the Harry Potter films in the past (despite the age rating). I just have to share with you Miss 9’s considered opinion:
‘Voldemort would be quite handsome if he had a nose job and a wig.’
